Dr. Anant Kumar is a highly respected authority in the field of Urology and Kidney Transplantation, with over 35 years of clinical and teaching experience. He is currently the Chairman of Uro-Oncology, Robotic Surgery, and Kidney Transplantation at Max Hospital, Saket (New Delhi) and Max Hospital, Vaishali.
Recognized as one of India’s foremost robotic and laparoscopic surgeons, Dr. Kumar has previously held prestigious positions including Director of Urology, Renal Transplantation and Robotics at Fortis Hospital and Apollo Hospital (Delhi NCR). Earlier in his career, he served as Professor and Head of Urology & Kidney Transplantation at SGPGIMS, Lucknow, and also worked as a Consultant Urologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
Dr. Kumar has an exceptional track record in kidney transplantation, having performed more than 3,500 transplants over the last three decades, with over 2,200 laparoscopic donor nephrectomies. For the past 20 years, he has been retrieving all donor kidneys laparoscopically, making him one of the pioneers in this field.
In the last five years, he has also established himself as a leader in robotic surgery, performing over 500 robotic procedures for complex urological cancers and reconstructive surgeries. His areas of expertise include renal transplantation, robotic-assisted and laparoscopic urology, reno-vascular hypertension, urological oncology, laser surgery, and reconstructive urology.
Dr. Kumar has performed hundreds of advanced endourological procedures such as PCNL, URS, flexible ureteroscopy, TURP, TURBT, endopyelotomy, and optical urethrotomy. He is also a leading specialist in laser prostate surgery, having used Thulium, Greenlight, and Holmium lasers, and is currently performing HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) with the latest Lumenis system.
Over the years, he has managed some of the most challenging cases in urethral stricture surgery (700+ cases), laparoscopic urology (radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, partial nephrectomy, etc.), and robotic reconstructions such as pyeloplasty, ureteric reimplantation, and bladder augmentation.
