Dr. Praveen Chandra – Best Cardiologist
Dr. Praveen Chandra is one of India’s most eminent interventional cardiologists and currently serves as Chairman – Interventional Cardiology at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram. Widely regarded as a national leader in angioplasty, he has been at the forefront of introducing advanced cardiac technologies and minimally invasive procedures in India.
Dr. Chandra achieved a historic milestone by performing India’s first percutaneous aortic valve implantation without open-heart surgery, followed by the country’s first percutaneous mitral valve repair—both landmark interventions with far-reaching implications in a nation bearing one of the world’s highest burdens of valvular heart disease. He has also been a pioneer in adopting cutting-edge technologies, including the AngioJet thrombectomy device, fractional flow reserve (FFR), bioabsorbable stents, and the Percutaneous Myocardial Laser Revascularization Program, which he introduced for the first time in Asia.
Before joining Medanta, Dr. Chandra held senior leadership roles as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Acute MI Services at Max Healthcare, and earlier as Consultant Cardiologist at Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi. He is a Fellow of both the Endovascular Intervention Society of India and the Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
A committed academician, Dr. Chandra has authored over 100 scientific publications, including original articles, reviews, and abstracts in leading national and international medical journals, and serves as a reviewer for several reputed publications. He has been a prominent faculty member at numerous global cardiology conferences and was the Organizer and Course Director of the AMI program in New Delhi in 2005 and 2006.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to medicine and interventional cardiology, Dr. Chandra was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India in 2016, in addition to receiving multiple national awards for excellence in angioplasty.
