Dr. (Prof.) Arvind Kumar is one of India’s most distinguished Thoracic (Chest) Surgeons, with unparalleled expertise in the surgical management of diseases affecting the lungs, pleura, mediastinum, trachea (windpipe), esophagus (food pipe), chest wall, diaphragm, and chest trauma.
Over his illustrious career, Dr. Kumar has performed more than 15,000 thoracic surgeries, including over 8,000 procedures using minimally invasive techniques such as Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and advanced robotic surgery. He is widely recognized for leading India’s largest and most comprehensive Chest Surgery Program, delivering state-of-the-art care for a wide spectrum of thoracic conditions.
Dr. Kumar holds the country’s largest experience in the surgical treatment of thymic disorders, including Myasthenia Gravis and Thymoma, and is especially renowned for performing the highest number of robotic thymectomies in India, with outstanding clinical outcomes. He also ranks among Asia’s most experienced surgeons in robotic thymectomy.
A pioneer in minimally invasive chest surgery, Dr. Kumar is credited with performing many of India’s first VATS and robotic thoracic procedures during his 36 years of dedicated service at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. His work has played a transformative role in advancing thoracic surgery practices nationwide.
